Club G MG

GM II Semi Striker

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the MG GM II Semi Striker, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It's based on the MG GM II (Unicorn version) released through Club G, with new sculpts added on top. The main body has revised sculpting on the shoulder and left forearm, and the Twin Beam Spear and bazooka have been added as new weapons.

The main body shares the same structure as the previous GM II kits, so it still delivers excellent articulation and joint strength. The newly added Twin Beam Spear is impressively large and long — very MG-like — and the beam sections have two linked points of articulation. That said, the connection between the spear and the hand palm is a little shaky, which makes holding dynamic poses feel a bit nerve-wracking.

Especially when the beam is bent, the center of gravity shifts to one side, making it nearly impossible to maintain the angle even with both hands. No matter how much I tried, I just couldn't get the pose to hold, so I ended up gluing it to the palm and shooting it that way. The newly sculpted bazooka looks pretty stylish and came out nicely, but again, the weak grip makes posing it a bit of a hassle.

So while the looks and gimmicks are solid, the weak grip is a real letdown. The Twin Beam Spear in its straight (non-bent) form is manageable enough to hold, at least. Either way, the overall style looks great, so if you're a fan of GM-type kits, this one is definitely worth building. :-)
