Club G MG

Gundam Astray Red Dragon

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This is the MG Gundam Astray Red Dragon, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It's based on the previously released Club G MG Gundam Astray Red Frame, with the addition of the Flight Unit body and three Khaled Bulfs as new weapons. As you can see in the photos, it's got an impressively packed-out silhouette.

The Astray Red Frame body itself is completely identical to the original, with only the head antenna and head sculpt changed. The Flight Unit body and Khaled Bulfs are all-new sculpts. The three Khaled Bulfs, which are the real highlight of this kit, can be used in a variety of configurations. You can detach the two small blades for individual use, or rearrange them into G (Gun) Mode and S (Sword) Mode. With separate joint parts, they can also be configured as a Build Knife or Build Cutter. And by connecting two Khaled Bulfs in S Mode, you can form a large weapon with the rather elaborate name of Ambidextrous Halberd.

As for the Flight Unit body, it comes without wings — just the main unit — but it shows off MG-level detail and engineering. You can rotate the duct on the side of the Booster 180 degrees to mount the beam rifle and shield. (For reference, the complete Flight Unit with wings was released separately at a later date.) A black Action Base is also included, with a clear support pillar added to help bear the weight of the heavy weapons. The body's articulation and joint strength are solid enough that, when you use the support pillar alongside the heavy weapons, you can pull off stable poses without any trouble.

Thanks to the all-new backpack and weapons, this kit is capable of incredibly flashy poses, and it's safe to say it's the ultimate MG Astray. If you're an Astray fan, this feels like the definitive version you really don't want to miss. :-)
