Club G MG

Gundam F90

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the MG Gundam F90, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It's the first ever 100% all-new tooling MG in Club G history. The MG Haze'n-thley II-Rah also came out through Club G before, but that one reused the frame from the MG Gundam Mk-II Ver. 2.0, so it wasn't completely new tooling. That said, the box art and manual are both provided in full color, which gives a strong impression that this was originally planned as a general retail release before being shifted over to Club G.

First off, as befitting a 100% all-new tooling MG kit, it comes with a brand-new full-body frame design. The detail isn't particularly fine, but the three-dimensional sculpting comes out nicely. And even without polycaps, the joint strength is smooth yet holds position well — not loose or stiff at all. Articulation is also at a solid above-average level, and the overall feel when posing is satisfying. In particular, the unique gimmick where the entire hip joint plate bends forward is a big help for poses like kneeling.

The color separation and sculpting are also more than good enough for MG grade, and the weapon loadout and hard point layout faithfully recreate the source material. You'll be able to attach the separately sold mission packs — A through Z — all over the body. That said, some of the hard point covers don't hold on very securely and tend to fall off, particularly the side skirt and backpack covers. It's worth pressing them in firmly all the way to make sure they're properly seated.

So while it is a web exclusive, this kit comes out clean and polished enough to feel like a proper retail release — there's really not much to complain about. It may not be a general retail kit, but for anyone who's been waiting a long time for an MG Gundam F90, this is a very welcome gift. :-)
