Gundam F90 II I Type

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the MG Gundam F90 II I Type, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. Back in 1991, the F90 II came out alongside the L Type, but for the MG release it's paired with the I Type instead.

In terms of lore, the Gundam F90 II is based on the Gundam F90 with partial design changes to the head, shoulders, chest, and legs, while sharing the same basic structure and articulation characteristics. The frame also carries over the MG Gundam F90's inner frame skeleton as-is, though the head and chest frames have been modified to match the updated exterior design. Beyond that, the armament loadout is provided identically to the MG Gundam F90, and the excellent articulation combined with solid joint strength gives it a reassuringly high build quality.

This kit includes the I (Intercept) Type Mission Pack, which consists of a large Flight Shield, a Beam Lancer, and thrust booster units that attach to the legs. The Flight Shield in particular can have its wings deployed and its length extended so that the Gundam F90 II can ride on top of it — at which point the knee holes and the fixing pins on the underside of the Flight Shield lock together firmly for a stable hold. When standing upright, the Flight Shield is heavy enough that it can droop to one side, so a dedicated support stand is included to prevent that. That said, the joint strength of the existing F90 shoulders is a bit lacking when it comes to raising the arms up high while the Flight Shield is attached.

So following the F90, the F90 II has now made it to the MG lineup as well, carving out its own identity through a combination of subtle design changes and a brand-new Mission Pack. The quality is more than up to MG standards, so if you're a fan of the F90 series, this is pretty much a must-have kit. :-)
