Club G MG

Raijin Striker for Eclipse Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build + panel lining + wet decals

This kit is the MG Raijin Striker for Eclipse Gundam, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. As a weapon set for the MG Eclipse Gundamreleased as a standard retail kit, it boasts quite a hefty volume thanks to the massive large beam cannon. The backpack and composite pod are Lightning Striker pack
for the MG Aile Strike Gundam
Ver.RM
partially reused from that kit.

The signature weapon, the large beam cannon, shows excellent color separation and sculpting. When attaching it to the MG Eclipse Gundam, it can be fully rotated from the bottom all the way up into position, and the hold is solid relative to its size, so you can pose it without any worries. When combining, the head unit from the nose section can be fitted onto the front of the Eclipse Gundam's antenna — the fitting mechanism is a bit ambiguous, so it takes a few tries to get the hang of it, but once you get it right it holds firmly.

The Raijin Striker pack can also be combined with the Eclipse Gundam in MA form, resulting in an incredibly large and complex MA configuration. One action base is included with this kit, but it's recommended to use two action bases to get that massive thing up in the air. Since the MG Eclipse Gundam already comes with an action base you can borrow, both the MS and MA forms can be displayed stably. That said, once combined, the whole thing becomes so large and complex that it does take quite a bit of fiddling when displaying or posing.

Anyway, it's a half-new release with some reused parts, but it's bigger and more imposing than any other striker pack out there. The overall build quality is clean and polished as you'd expect from a modern MG, so if you already have the MG Eclipse Gundam, this seems like a pretty fun kit to build. :-)
