Shiranui unit for Akatsuki Gundam & Connecting Parts for HG Zeus Silhouette

Kit Review

Straight build + Seals

This kit is the RG Akatsuki Gundam Shiranui Pack & Connecting Parts for HG Zeus Silhouette, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It's an accessory kit designed to be used with the standard release RG Ooowashi
Akatsuki Gundam
As the name suggests, it includes not only the Shiranui Pack but also HGCE Destiny Gundam Spec II & Zeus Silhouettesupplementary parts for combining with the Zeus Silhouette that came in that set.

The Shiranui Pack is well executed with excellent detail and a great plated finish befitting an RG kit. Using its various articulation points, it can transform between flight mode and backpack mode, and as an RG original gimmick, you can position all 4 Dragoons to face forward. All 7 Dragoons can be detached and deployed, and you can recreate a launch scene using the included stand. Just be careful when deploying the Dragoons — deploying the lower section incorrectly has a high risk of breakage, so please refer to the review photos above carefully before doing so.

This kit also includes connecting parts for the HG Zeus Silhouette that can be used separately from the Shiranui Pack. By swapping out the parts that differ in size and mounting mechanism from the HG Destiny Gundam, you can attach the Zeus Silhouette securely. That said, the joint strength is worse than the HG Destiny Gundam, so stability is a bit iffy. In particular, the heavier legs cause the hip joints to pop out easily during posing.

The linear cannon firing pose in particular calls for a nice wide leg stance, but the hip joints are too weak to hold the heavy legs spread apart at all. Bandai's developers must have been aware of this issue, as they do provide instructions saying you can spread the legs by rotating the dedicated stand joint parts 90 degrees before inserting them. (See the review photos.) That said, the wider you spread the legs, the more easily the hip joints pop out, so it ends up being a frustrating point either way.

To sum it up, the detail, functionality, and how securely it connects to the main body are all pretty solid as an accessory kit — but the RG Akatsuki Gundam's durability issues mean you'll need to go in with some patience. With the Shiranui Pack attached, freestanding is still a bit shaky, but it holds up well enough on a stand. With the Zeus Silhouette attached, as long as you keep the legs from popping out, it looks absolutely stunning.

It's a kit with both pros and cons, but given how great it looks and how well it functions, it's definitely worth recommending. If you're a fan of the RG Ooowashi Akatsuki Gundam in particular, this is pretty much a must-buy. :-)
