Club G RG

G3 Gundam Ver.2.0

Kit Review

Straight build + Seals

This kit is the RG G3 Gundam Ver.2.0, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It's essentially the standard release RG RX-78 Gundam Ver. 2.0 with the molded colors swapped out for G3 colors. New sculpts have been applied to the magnet coating exterior panels on the elbows, knees, and ankles.

Everything else — all the structural features and accessories — remains the same as the original, so in this review just pay close attention to the updated color scheme and the handful of new parts. The frame, gimmicks, visuals, articulation, and joint strength all come out at A-grade. That said, building it a second time around, the joint assembly process felt surprisingly fiddly. When the standard release first came out, I was so blown away by the sheer quality that I probably didn't notice it as much.

If you've built this before, you'll know the method for connecting the main arm and leg joints is pretty unique. In a lot of places, you slot the one-piece frame parts for the arms and legs together while folded, then straighten them out. (Hard to explain in words — if you haven't built it yet, just refer to the manual.) This step is trickier than it sounds, and there are times when the joints just won't straighten out properly. Experienced builders who've put together plenty of Gunpla will find a way through it, but for beginners this could be a bit of a sticking point.

Color-wise, it comes out with a much heavier and more composed color scheme compared to the brighter RG First Gundam v1.0 G3 — and in terms of detail, gimmicks, and color, the 2.0 wins hands down. Either way, a masterpiece is a masterpiece no matter what color it comes in, and it's great that they even threw in newly sculpted joints on top of that. This is easily my favorite G3 kit ever released, and I'd say it's worth recommending to any Gunpla fan out there. :-)
