Votoms HG

Burglarydog

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Following the HG Scopedog from Armored Trooper Votoms, the Burglarydog has now been released as an HG as well. The basic frame and some of the armor are carried over from the HG Scopedog, but more has been changed than you might expect. At first glance it looks like just a few extra armor parts have been added, but in reality more than half of it is brand-new tooling.

First off, the Trumpliger — the Burglarydog's signature feature — is nicely reproduced with a deployable mechanism. The chunky backpack packs no fewer than four weapons, and the Droppers Folding Gun among them is articulated. All these weapon options open up a wider variety of poses, and the kit still delivers solid articulation and joint strength. You can also pull off the down form the same way as the HG Scopedog.

As a bonus, new-tooling armor parts for attaching to the HG Scopedog via 3mm joints are included. On top of that, quite a few HG Scopedog parts end up as leftover parts, but they aren't marked separately in the manual. Normally the runner guide marks leftover parts with an X, but for some reason this kit skips that. Instead, there's a rather irresponsible note saying to just use the leftover parts however you like. The thing is, marking leftover parts with an X is exactly what prevents confusion when cutting parts off the runners — without it, it's genuinely hard to tell whether parts still on the runner were accidentally skipped during assembly or are just leftovers. Pretty inconvenient. -_-

All that said, the overall quality is pretty much on par with the HG Scopedog, just with a richer set of weapon options. The cockpit interior and open-hatch gimmick are still not included, so you'll still need the Scopedog Expansion Parts Set 1 for those — same as before. Either way, the kit itself is clean and well put together, so if you're a Votoms fan, this is definitely one worth picking up. :-)
