Dragonar Set 3

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the 1/144 Dragonar Set 3, a repackage of the old-release Dragonar kits. Just like the previous sets, it's a compilation of reprinted old-release 1/144 Dragonar kits. This time around, it includes three kits: Dragonar-1 Custom, Dragonar-2 Custom, and Dragonar-3.

True to their old-release nature, all three are glue-assembly kits with very little color separation. That said, using the included stickers, you can at least replicate the designated colors on the legs and shoulders. Articulation is pretty limited, so dynamic poses are out of the question. The joints are based on old-style polycaps, but since the kits are lightweight, stability isn't much of an issue. These are plastic models from decades ago when painting and customizing were just part of the deal, so you'll want to keep your expectations in check going in.

Dragonar-1 Custom has a relatively generous set of weapon options — the Shoulder Bom on the right shoulder can be detached, and a dedicated hand is included just for that purpose. A beam saber is also included as an option. Dragonar-2 Custom's wings can be spread and rotated, and the 640mm Rail Cannon and twin 75mm Auto Cannons mounted on top of the lifter have a wide range of movement. Finally, the 460mm Rail Cannon on Dragonar-3's right shoulder also moves, though there aren't really any other notable gimmicks or features beyond that.

Much like the previous sets, the real value of this kit lies in the fact that these old-release Dragonar kits have been reprinted and bundled together again. It's a gift for old-school fans who remember the originals — a retro kit for a trip down memory lane. :-)
