L-Gaim HG

Calvary Temple Hellmeene

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the HG Calvary Temple Hellmeene, released as a Premium Bandai online exclusive. It's a newly tooled L-Gaim kit after quite a while, and out of all the HG L-Gaim series kits released so far, this one has the most satisfying build feel.

First off, the yellow and orange molded colors came out looking really premium and nice. Thanks to excellent color separation, the straight build already looks plenty impressive without any seals. The plastic feels especially smooth, making gate cleanup easy and the whole build a comfortable experience — judged purely on build quality, this is an A++ kit.

That said, perhaps because the plastic is so soft, the joint strength is relatively a bit disappointing. It's not floppy like an octopus, but there's a slightly loose feel overall without that satisfying tight snap. On the flip side, the articulation is great, so pulling off all kinds of dynamic poses is a breeze.

For weapons, you get two Power Launchers and the large sword Saviour, and the tubes for the Power Launchers have been changed to a softer material as well. Given the nature of L-Gaim mecha with all their cables, tubes have been included fairly often — but they generally had too much spring to them, making it hard to get them to curve naturally. The tubes on this kit, however, are really soft, making it much easier to position them naturally.

If the joint strength had been just a bit tighter, this would've been a perfect kit — but it's only relatively disappointing compared to the rock-solid kits we've been seeing lately; it's not actually loose by any means. Either way, if you're a fan of the L-Gaim series or the style is your thing, this seems like a latest HG kit well worth picking up. :-)
