Dopp Fighter

Kit Review

Straight build

EX Vol. 4 brings us the Dopp Fighter, the iconic Zeon aircraft. Uniquely, this kit includes both 1/100 and 1/144 scale versions in one box.

The overall kit quality is decent, and it feels a step up in detail compared to the previous EX Dodai II. The panel lines are still a bit shallow, but the compact size gives it a nice, tight look.

The detail on the 1/100 and 1/144 is nearly identical right down to the panel line shapes, but the 1/100 is noticeably more refined around the cockpit canopy. On the 1/100, the clear parts and the frame are separate pieces, and the clear section underneath the cockpit is properly reproduced as well. The 1/100 also has the added bonus of movable wings.

One thing both scales share — the landing gear on both is retractable rather than a swap-out type... and that's actually pretty rare for Bandai, so it's a welcome surprise ^^ Even the previous EX Dodai II, which is bigger and has larger landing gear, only got the swap-out treatment. Should've done it this way from the start..

Anyway, if it weren't for the steep price-to-content ratio that's typical of the EX line (it's 3000 yen!), this would be a charming and fun little item for Gunpla fans — especially Zeon enthusiasts.
