The White Base has finally joined the EX warship lineup. In a way, it feels like it should've been the first one out the door... but either way, being the last one released means it came out with the best quality of the bunch.

The detail concept follows the same approach as the previous EX warship series — lots of panel lines with detail packed into every corner. But once you actually build it and take a close look, you can really tell that extra care went into this one compared to the earlier EX warships. ^^

For starters, the swappable recreation of the main cannons, mega particle cannons, and smaller gun barrels is all included as standard, and they even added engine detail that wasn't present on other kits. On top of that, the front, rear, and both front leg hatches all open, and the interior detail inside each hatch is incredibly thorough. The front leg section in particular has a removable cover so you can see the intricate detail inside, along with finely depicted MS cradles and MS storage scenes.

Unlike the other EX warships, this one actually has some color separation — at least for the red sections. The yellow and blue parts still aren't color-separated, so you'll need at least some touch-up painting, but since the base color is white, that touch-up work is pretty easy to do.

With the EX release, the overall proportions of the White Base itself have also been updated — generally made longer and slimmer in a more modern style. You can see this right away when comparing it to the old release or the massive 1/400 Guncolle White Base that came out a few years back. (See the photos above.)

The included 1/1700 MS figures are a generous bunch — the V Operation trio of First/Guncannon/Guntank, plus a Gunperry, Core Boosters, and a G-Fighter from the G-Armor. Among these, the Guntank's detail is particularly impressive given it's under 1cm, and having our eternal hero First Gundam in there is a nice bonus point.

In the end, as befits the flagship of the original Gundam, this looks to be the definitive White Base model kit. It's an intricate and beautiful kit that faithfully delivers on the EX concept — it doesn't get better than this. :-)
