EX Model

Balck Tiger

Kit Review

Straight build

The second kit in the Yamato EX series is the Balck Tiger. It's the fighter that fought alongside the Cosmo Zero throughout the show, and it really stood out with that distinctive shark mouth design. The overall concept is the same as the EX Cosmo Zero — a classic space fighter reimagined as a modern aero model kit.

Since this is an EX series kit that basically demands a paint job, the molded color is kept simple — just a single yellow throughout. The panel lines are actually quite refined overall, but they just don't show up well in photos of the straight build. Once you get a proper paint job on it with panel lining done, it should look pretty nice..

Just like the Cosmo Zero, the landing gear snaps in and out, the airbrakes are reproduced, and multiple cockpit parts are provided. The fact that both single-seat and two-seat parts are included really gives it that aero kit feel — you can tell they put some thought into it.

Straight out of the box it looks pretty plain, but if you're a Yamato fan who's into painting, this is a must-have. The only issue is that there aren't many people who'd go that far for it.. :-)
