The cockpit hatch isn't an open/close mechanism — you have to choose open or closed during assembly and fix it in place with glue beforehand.

This is the Cosmo Tiger II, the final entry in the EX Yamato series. Perhaps because it's the last one, the kit itself shows a noticeable step up in quality compared to the previous two.
First of all, the overall detail and molding feels noticeably crisper. The molding is more refined and deeper than before, so even in photos you can really see the three-dimensional quality of the panel lines. On top of that, this kit has the most options of the bunch — it covers both single-seat and two-seat configurations, and you can actually swap out the entire nose section to match. It seems like they included two separate noses because the differences between single- and two-seat aren't just in the cockpit — the upper and lower details and structure are different as well.
In two-seat configuration, there are two antennas on the lower front and a turret on top; in single-seat configuration, there's one lower antenna and braking flaps are recreated on top. There are also two types of missiles included, so you can choose whichever fits the situation — all in all, this is a kit packed with options.
The extra parts do push the price up ¥500 to ¥4,000, but even so, for an EX kit it feels like you're getting a pretty good amount of content for the money. Like the others, this kit really calls for painting and waterslide decals, but the Cosmo Tiger II at least holds up reasonably well even as a straight build.
Anyway, with this release, the EX treatment of Yamato's fighter craft — which kicked off alongside the 1/350 deluxe Yamato — has come to a close. All things considered, this is a great lineup for Yamato fans, and I think it's a genuinely good kit that fits the EX concept well: not aimed at the general public, but a thoughtful offering for the dedicated enthusiast. :-)
