Figurerise Mechanics

Doraemon (Ganso Ver.)

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Following the original Doraemon release, Bandai has now put out the Doraemon (Ganso Ver.) as a Figure-rise Mechanics kit. The visual differences from the existing Doraemon are that the body is yellow and it has ears. The backstory is that this was Doraemon's original look — until one day a mouse chewed off his ears, and he cried and wailed so much that he turned completely blue, giving us the Doraemon we know today. (Poor guy... T_T)

Most of the body parts are naturally reused straight from the existing Doraemon kit, and the inner frame is 100% identical too. Beyond the change in molded color and the addition of ears, the tongue inside the mouth now has proper color separation — which is a nice improvement. The original Doraemon release handled that part with a sticker, which was a bit of a letdown, so it's good to see it fixed here. (Should've done that from the start...)

Also, you can swap out the top head parts to plug in the Takecopter (bamboo helicopter) that shows up so often in the show — a nice upgrade. And to make sure the original blue Doraemon isn't left out, a blue version of the top head part is included so you can do the same with that one too.

There aren't huge differences overall, but it's still meaningful that the Doraemon (Ganso Ver.) got the plastic model treatment. And with the tongue color separation and the Takecopter added in, this seems like a kit worth picking up for any Doraemon fan. :-)
