Final Form Frieza

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Final Form Frieza has been released alongside Figure-rise Standard Super Saiyan Goku. As you can see in the comparison photos above, he came out much smaller than Goku — which means fewer parts and a price that's ¥300 cheaper.

Unlike Goku, who came with 2 swappable face parts, Frieza comes with 2 complete head sculpts that swap out entirely for 2 different expressions. Just like Goku, the eyes, pupils, and even the lips are fully color separated, so even a straight build looks fantastic right out of the box. Frieza's signature smug smirk in particular is so perfectly captured that just looking at it is enough to put you in a bad mood.. ;;

As you'd expect from a Figure-rise kit that emphasizes action, it does come with a variety of articulated joints — but overall, the articulation and joint strength feel a step below Super Saiyan Goku. The bend range on the limbs is comparatively limited, and the stiff waist makes it hard to get poses looking just right. The waist pops off way too easily during posing and you end up having to reattach it over and over — in terms of overall poseability, this kit is pretty disappointing compared to Goku.

On the plus side, the large tail is split into 3 segments that move independently, letting you position it in all sorts of shapes and angles — which is a fun feature. Since it's big and long, if you position it carefully it can even act as a support stand for the body. On top of that, the effect parts — the Death Beam, Death Ball parts, and various clear parts — let you float the Death Ball in mid-air or use the Death Beam as a display support.

The real significance of this kit is that "Frieza" — a character anyone who's watched Dragon Ball will remember — has been made into an action plastic model kit. Honestly though, purely in terms of looks and quality, it's not something I'd strongly recommend. The sculpt itself is well done, but the character design isn't exactly what you'd call likable, so this is really a Figure-rise kit I'd only recommend to Dragon Ball fans. :-)
