Kit Review
Straight build + Stickers
Straight build + Stickers
The Elf Sigma from the anime Active Raid has been released as part of the Figure-rise Standard lineup. The skeleton structure is completely different from the previously released Strike Interceptor, with an entirely new frame design — though some joint parts are still shared between the two.
Overall, the straight build quality is quite high thanks to the excellent frame structure and color separation. That said, compared to the Strike Interceptor, this kit has a lot more stuff hanging off it and the moving parts are more complex, making it a much trickier kit to handle. In particular, the rings attached to the sides of the shoulders tend to pop off easily, so you may want to glue them in place — though the Type-25 Variable Shotgun parts that mount onto those rings also tend to fall off along with them. Gluing them down is a bit awkward given the detach-and-attach functionality, and having things keep falling off while posing really cranks up the frustration level. -_-
On top of that, the feet are small and the soles aren't flat, so stability on flat surfaces is pretty poor. Fortunately, a clear simple stand is included, so it's probably best to display it on the stand whenever possible. Even so, the articulation and joint strength are solid, so if you get a good pose going on the stand, it can look pretty awesome. The Type-25 Variable Shotgun is well-reproduced in both the short form and the long barrel combined form, and with the police badge and dedicated hands included, you can pull off the badge flash shot just as naturally as with the Strike Interceptor.
So from the perspective of an articulated action model kit, the quality is impressive — but the weak attachment of all those hanging parts makes it a less satisfying kit than the Strike Interceptor. Since this is ultimately a product aimed at fans of the original anime, I'd recommend it to anyone who's just happy to see this mech get the plastic model treatment. :-)
