Figurerise Standard

Perfect Cell

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Following Frieza, Perfect Cell — one of Dragon Ball's most iconic villains — has been released as a Figure-rise Standard kit. Among the Dragon Ball villains, he's arguably the most good-looking(?) one of the bunch. (compared to Majin Buu or Frieza anyway..) Being one of the more popular characters in the Dragon Ball universe, it makes sense that he got the plastic model treatment after Goku and Gohan.

The first thing that really stands out is Cell's signature spotted pattern. There are countless green spots covering his head and body, and every single one of those complex spots has been done through color separation in the parts. I honestly expected them to just slap stickers on it when I heard Perfect Cell was getting a model kit, so this caught me completely off guard ^^; The color separation on the spots is so cleanly done that the fun of assembling them alone is almost enough to justify buying this kit.

Beyond that, the overall build feel, articulation, joint strength — there's really nothing to complain about, and the hands-on quality is outstanding across the board. In terms of overall sculpt and build quality, it actually feels cleaner and more polished than Goku/Gohan/Frieza. The articulation is ever so slightly behind Goku/Gohan, but the proportions are so good that the action poses still look just as dynamic.

For accessories, you get the same Kamehameha effect parts and clear stand parts as Goku/Gohan. Cell is a character who absorbs other people's techniques, so him pulling off Goku's move makes perfect sense — so it's totally fitting that the same effect parts are included.

All in all, this kit delivers top-tier quality both in the build experience and the finished visual, and I'd actually recommend it even more than Goku or Gohan — it's a premium action figure kit of the highest order. :-)
