Super Saiyan 4 Son Gokou from Dragon Ball GT has been released as a Figure-rise Standard kit. With this, Super Saiyan 1, 3, and 4 are all out now (skipping 2). Super Saiyan 1 through 3 were essentially the same body with just different hair, but Super Saiyan 4 takes things in a different direction — the body takes on a more ape-like form, adding fur on the upper body along with a tail.
That said, the lower body is still clothed, so the related parts are reused straight from the existing Super Saiyan Son Gokou runners, while everything else has been replaced with new parts. The new upper body in particular shows improved articulation over the previous releases, with a greater range of motion in the waist and shoulders. A gimmick that extends the forearm section to widen the range of motion has also been added, giving the kit noticeably more flexible articulation overall.
These additional articulation gimmicks are basically there to recreate the fusion pose — the kit is designed so that it can strike the fusion pose together with the simultaneously released Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta. The other optional parts are the same as the existing Son Gokou, with the Kamehameha effect parts and clear stand being identical to those included with Son Gokou/Son Gohan.
Overall joint strength is decent and holds poses well, but the feet are small, so you'll need to balance the center of gravity carefully when standing it on a surface. Super Saiyan 1 and 3 had a similar tendency, but the feet got even smaller with 4, so it's a bit more pronounced here.
It's a kit that feels fresh with improved articulation and a distinctly different look, but since Dragon Ball GT itself is an anime-only series that wasn't in the original manga, whether you're into it really comes down to personal taste. Either way, it should be a welcome treat for Dragon Ball GT fans. :-)
