Metalgreymon (Vaccine)

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is Metalgreymon (Vaccine) from the Figure-rise Standard series. In the lore, it's a cyborg-type Digimon with half its body mechanized, and its asymmetrical left and right arms are one of its defining features. It comes out as a kit with a strong presence thanks to its large size, excellent color separation, and great sculpting.

Right off the bat, the parts lineup is relatively premium. The six PET wings have colorful patterns printed on them, and both thick, vivid PET stickers and regular stickers are used together. The color separation is also excellent — the head in particular is broken down into multiple layers, covering not just the outer armor and teeth but even the red inside the mouth. Thanks to that, even a straight build gives you a head that's both menacing and packed with detail.

Overall articulation is decent, though the lower body joints feel a bit lacking compared to the upper body. As you can see in the review photos above, this kit's proportions require you to carefully balance the center of gravity when standing it upright on the ground. The surface area of the feet touching the ground is also quite small, so you'll really want to pose it on the stand. To mount it on the stand, you need to temporarily remove the tail and fit the dedicated joint parts between the tail and the body. Fortunately, the hold is solid enough that it seems more than capable of supporting the kit's size and weight.

Joint strength overall is solid, but the hip joints tend to pop out frequently during posing. It feels like a structural issue with the hip joint itself, so there's not much you can do about it — you'll need to push the hip joints back in regularly whenever you're posing the kit. That said, the joints on the arms, wings, and elsewhere are plenty sturdy, and once it's up on the stand, you basically don't need to worry about poses holding.

As for accessories, the kit includes two Giga Destroyer missiles and a dedicated clear stand. On top of the massive right arm for recreating Alterous Mode from the show, original gimmick parts are also provided. By removing the forearm from the Alterous Mode right arm and attaching the claw parts and such, you can mount it on the left arm like a weapon. Apparently, this way of combining it onto the left arm is an original gimmick created specifically for this kit — meaning it doesn't exist in the original work.

So among the various Metalgreymons out there, it's meaningful that the Vaccine type has been made into a plastic model with quite impressive sculpting and visuals. The design's nature means the center of gravity isn't the most stable, which is a bit of a shame, but the excellent sculpting makes up for it to a decent degree. Either way, if you're a Digimon fan, this seems like a kit well worth picking up. :-)
