Figurerise Standard

Chuatury Panlunch

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the Figure-rise Standard release of Chuatury Panlunch. She's the third The Witch from Mercury character to get the Figure-rise Standard treatment after Suletta and Miorine. Most people probably know her better by her nickname "Chuchu," and her signature round head is faithfully recreated here.

The basic body construction follows a similar format to the previous releases, but the standout feature here is that the lower body and coat are provided in three different forms. By swapping parts, you can pose her standing upright, seated on the floor, or crouching down. Since it works by replacing parts of the body and coat, the poses come out looking quite natural — and it lets you pull off poses that would've been tough to achieve with other Figure-rise kits.

That said, the articulation in the standing configuration is pretty limited — the hip joints can barely move at all because of the skirt. The arms do fold in two stages, but since the coat sections are attached as separate pieces, the movement ends up feeling a bit awkward. That's probably exactly why they had no choice but to provide separate body and coat parts for each pose.

Accessories include two tools and a smartphone, and a simple clear stand is also included. Like the previous Witch from Mercury releases, one face comes with the eyes already printed on, but the other two require you to apply the eyes using waterslide decals. Getting the eye height and left-right spacing just right without it looking off is still no easy feat — it's hard to find the right position in the first place, and then the decals keep shifting while you're dabbing away the moisture with a tissue or cotton swab.

On the surface it looks like a nice feature that lets you choose which direction the eyes are looking — but in practice it just feels like Bandai is offloading the labor and the risk onto the builder to cut production costs, and honestly it's a pretty annoying option. If the folks at Bandai tried applying these eye decals themselves, they'd quickly realize just how much of a pain it is for us mere mortals.. (Just print the eyes like Kotobukiya does, for crying out loud!! Try doing it yourselves and see how it goes!)

Anyway, this is a kit that works around the articulation limitations caused by the coat by providing swappable body and coat parts. Separating and reassembling the torso and coat is a bit of a hassle, but thanks to that, the two special poses come out looking really convincing. Chuchu was a fairly prominent and charming supporting character in the original anime, so if she caught your eye in The Witch from Mercury, this should be a pretty fun build. :-)
