Figurerise Standard

Dukemon/Gallantmon

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Dukemon/Gallantmon from Digimon Adventure has been released as part of the Figure-rise Standard lineup. The original Japanese name is Dukemon and the English export name is Gallantmon, hence the dual product name Dukemon/Gallantmon. The knight-inspired, flashy visual style really comes through nicely.

First off, even without polycaps, the overall joint strength is solid — it stands up straight and holds poses well. The articulation isn't anything mind-blowing, but it's more than capable of pulling off a good variety of characteristic poses.

Visually, the kit stands out with its elaborate color separation and the unique PET sheet cape. The cape consists of five individual cape pieces attached to a PET sheet on one side, which you separate and sandwich between plastic parts. In practice though, the assembly is a bit of a challenge. You have to drape the cape sheet across multiple spots on Part A and then cover it with Part B — but since it doesn't stay put on Part A very well, things go sideways fast. After a few rounds of trial and error you do start to get the hang of it, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people are going to be cursing under their breath while building this (myself included). That said, once you finally get the cape done, it looks genuinely impressive, and since it's so lightweight, it holds its position well after posing.

The included weapons are the Holy Lance Gram and the Holy Shield Aegis. The Gram has four-directional deployment gimmicks, and the Aegis has a gimmick where three blades extend out. You turn the lever on the inside of the Aegis and the three blades are supposed to come out in sync — but it's so stiff that you're honestly better off just positioning them by hand. And since the Aegis is big and heavy, a dedicated clear support stand is included. For a simple standing pose it can hold up fine without the stand, but for more dynamic poses you'll definitely want it to keep things stable.

So all in all, this kit delivers a flashy look, solid joints, and impressive weapons and cape. Aside from the frustrating cape assembly, the overall quality is top-tier among Digimon kits. As the second Royal Knights kit following Omegamon, any Digimon fan should find plenty to love here. :-)
