Gundam Collection 1/400

Meteor Unit

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining

This is the second injection kit to appear in the 1/400 Gundam Collection lineup, following the White Base. It's the Meteor Unit, the large weapon unit from Gundam SEED, and it comes in at a compact size of roughly 17cm. Priced at ¥2000, if you subtract the three included Gundam Collection MS figures, the injection parts for the Meteor body itself come to around ¥1100 — and for ¥1100, the part count does feel a little on the light side.

The color separation is really well done overall, so the design colors are almost fully reproduced even with just a straight build. And despite the small size, all 7 weapon bays are built to open up. The articulation gimmicks with the MS removed are also perfectly faithful to the show.

The three included Gundam Collection MS figures were made specifically for this kit, and they feel a notch above the usual Gundam Collection MS in terms of quality. Just like in the anime, you can dock both Freedom and Justice onto the Meteor, while the Providence Gundam is just there for display. Freedom is made exclusively for Meteor docking, but Justice looks great both docked and on its own — it's probably one of the best-made figures in the Gundam Collection MS series.

There's nothing particularly groundbreaking about it, but this is a kit that deserves high marks for its excellent color separation across the board and how faithfully it recreates the design despite its small size. It honestly holds its own even compared to the later HG 1/144 large-scale Meteor Unit. Don't underestimate it just because it's small! ^^
