Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining
Following the Quin Mantha, the BIG-ZAM has also been released as a 1/400 Gundam Collection kit. The kit's composition is very similar in style to the previous Quin Mantha — it's put together like an injection kit with some pre-painted parts. Unlike the Quin Mantha, there aren't that many painted areas, but interestingly, the body section comes pre-assembled as a bulk piece that's already been painted and even partially panel lined. So the actual parts assembly is just the legs, and you can finish the whole thing in no time.
The BIG-ZAM's body detail is absolutely excellent — far more intricate and refined compared to the somewhat plain Quin Mantha. The fine detail on the ducts in the center of the body in particular, along with the painted touches in every little nook and cranny, is genuinely impressive. The display stand with its planetary surface texture is also really high quality. The Gundam Collection pre-painted injection series just keeps getting better and better!
The articulation points are limited to the central main beam cannon and the legs, and the legs' range of motion is just so-so. That said, the joints are pretty stiff so it doesn't topple over easily — but the purple claws that are designed to detach fall off way too easily. Because of that, the claws pop off and the whole thing loses its balance and falls over ^^; It really makes you want to just say forget the lore and glue them in place.
The three included Gundam Collection figures are a slight step up in quality compared to the existing ones. The range of motion is a bit wider, and pieces like the G-Armor and Core Base can be configured into multiple different forms through various part combination choices.
This product's biggest merit is that it brings a mobile suit that's hard to get as a proper injection kit to life with excellent detail. Quality-wise it's a step up from the Quin Mantha, but the biggest sticking point is still the price. ¥3,500 feels a bit steep for what you get. Set aside the not-so-friendly price tag and it's a pretty meaningful item. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing more large mobile suits rendered in high quality at 1/400 scale down the line. ^^
