Gran-Saurer

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Following Go-Saurer and Magna-Saurer, Gran-Saurer has now been released in HG. With this, all three kits needed for King Go-Saurer are out, and the price is a little higher than the previous two thanks to the extra combination parts included.

The Gran-Saurer itself comes out just as clean as the previous kits. The assembly feels smooth, the color separation is excellent, and the molded colors look great — all very satisfying to put together. Articulation is fairly average due to the transformation gimmick, though there is a neat feature where the chest parts fold inward to allow arm rotation.

Just like the previous kits, you can transform it into various mecha through disassembly and reassembly. You can configure it as Gran-Tops, a triceratops form, or Gran-Jet, a flight form. Two display stands are also included for storing the leftover parts, so you can keep everything tidy.

The highlight of this kit is ultimately the combination into King Go-Saurer, where you bring in the previously released Go-Saurer and Magna-Saurer to form one massive mecha. The process is a bit involved, but the parts fit and stability once it's all together are better than expected. Standing it upright in a neutral pose is no problem, but handing it the King Blade causes the shoulder joints to give way and droop. I did manage to get some action shots of it gripping the King Blade with both hands, but honestly it's probably better to just leave it standing empty-handed.

That said, the proportions of the combined King Go-Saurer are, well... honestly a bit off. The head is too small, the upper body is too big, and the lower body feels a little lacking — it's going to be pretty divisive. I think the real takeaway here is just the achievement of pulling off a three-unit combination in injection plastic model form.

Either way, if you have any nostalgia for Nekketsu Saikyō Go-Saurer (known in Korea as Great Captain Saurus), just knowing that the full lineup of all three kits is finally complete should be enough to get you excited. :-)
