NEUE ZIEL

Kit Review

Straight build + panel lining + partial paint

The second entry in the HGM series is the NEUE ZIEL from 0083. The NEUE ZIEL is a large MA — it's the unit piloted by Gato in the series.

The detail level is pretty standard for a Gunpla kit, but it does a good job of capturing the unique design and proportions. The panel lines on the body are solid, and even the inside of the armor is represented with separate parts. The verniers scattered all over the body can feel a bit plain on their own, so painting the inside of them red really makes a huge difference. The kit used in this review has all the vernier interiors painted red — compare it with the straight build shots and you'll see what I mean.

There are also a lot of panel lines, so panel lining has a pretty big impact on how the kit looks overall. As a straight build it can feel a little lacking, but once you add panel lining and some partial painting, it becomes a much more realistic and impressive-looking kit.

The sub-arms that attach to the inside of the shoulder armor are removable, though they're fixed in an L-shape and can't articulate. The tip of each sub-arm has a socket for one white beam saber part, and the included wire with a metal core lets you display the claw arm in its extended position — a nice touch. The key design features are all well represented.

Given its massive in-universe size, this isn't the kind of kit that can easily be released in just any scale, so the fact that it got an injection-molded release at all as part of the 1/550 HGM lineup is the biggest selling point of this kit. And at ¥1200, the price is pretty reasonable — it'd make a great pick-up for anyone interested in MA kits. Also, the NEUE ZIEL just looks better displayed alongside the Dendrobium. ^^
