Studio Ghibli 1/20

Mowe with Nausicaa

Kit Review

The second Studio Ghibli plastic model is "Mowe with Nausicaa," and the basic setup is pretty much the same as kit #1, "Nausicaa on Kai." However, since the Möwe is by nature an all-white aircraft, there's less color separation compared to Kai, and the Nausicaa figure is still molded in a single skin tone (accessories aside).

The Möwe features a decent amount of internal engine detail, and you can open the top cover to expose it. The underside open gimmick is also reproduced, so they did put some thought into the functional features. That said, since the design itself is pretty monochrome, the straight build looks relatively plain compared to the previous kit.

The Möwe played a big role in the original anime, so there are probably plenty of fans who've had their eye on this one. It's a simple build, but the sculpt and functionality come together nicely. And thanks to the plain color scheme, painting is pretty straightforward too — making this a solid, easy-going plastic model that's worth recommending to anyone who loves Ghibli films and wants to practice their painting skills. :-)
