AMAIM Full Mechanics 1/48

Mailes Kenbu Zan

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the Full Mechanics 1/48 Mailes Kenbu Zan from the Kyoukai Senki series. The basic skeleton is the same as the Full Mechanics Mailes Kenbu, and a large number of parts specific to the Kenbu Zan have been added as newly sculpted pieces. As a result, the shape and details of the full-body frame have also been partially revised.

In the end, it feels like a kit where only the outer armor has been swapped out from the original Full Mechanics Mailes Kenbu — the cockpit hatch/lift, interchangeable hand configuration, and all articulation characteristics are identical to the original. It still delivers outstanding articulation and solid joint strength for its size. The weapons include the Cho-Netsu Jinshiki Sentojangtō and the 40mm Arm-Mounted Combat Cannon, and despite being fairly large weapons, they fit securely in the hands with no stability issues. Thanks to that, it's easy to pull off a wide variety of dynamic poses with the Cho-Netsu Jinshiki Sentojangtō and hold them in place.

One difference from the original Kenbu worth noting is that the optional PET stickers have increased from two types to three. In addition to the original green (active mode) and red (output overdrive), a yellow (full burst) option has been added.

So while a large number of newly sculpted parts have been used, the overall feel is still the same kit with just the outer armor changed. That said, it's still a great kit that delivers top-tier MG-class quality. It may be getting overshadowed by the negative reception to the source material, but it's honestly too good a kit to be buried like that. Either way, if you're a fan of big, sturdy mecha kits, this is definitely one you can have a lot of fun building and posing. :-)
