Kimetsu no Yaiba

Kamado Tanjiro

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Kamado Tanjiro from the hugely popular anime Demon Slayer has made his appearance as a plastic model kit. In terms of composition, it's a fixed-pose figure kit that looks similar in setup to the Entry Grade (EG) kits. It's actually closer to the Figure-rise Labo/Burst than EG, though it was released independently without being tied to any particular series name.

Like the Figure-rise Labo and Burst, the face and eyes feature the same level of layered injection. Thanks to that, you get a really impressive visual just from a straight build, no stickers needed. Also, the checkered pattern on the haori — which would be impossible to achieve through color separation — comes pre-painted. Some parts are painted while still on the runners, while others are painted after being separated and come packaged individually. The area was just too large to handle with stickers or seals, so it's a relief they went ahead and painted it. ^^

Since this is a fixed-pose figure, there's no articulation aside from the ankles rotating slightly, so you can just enjoy the straight build visuals through the photos. There are more stickers than you might expect, but they generally blend in well without looking out of place. Also, the center of gravity is heavily shifted forward structurally, so if you don't position the ankles just right, it can topple forward.

One thing to note — when assembling the hair, you'll want to follow the manual carefully and take it step by step. In particular, when attaching the back hair piece, you need to make sure both tabs line up precisely before pressing it in. There are cases where it seems to fit even without aligning the tabs properly, and if that happens, the side hair pieces won't attach correctly and the parts can end up warping. (Speaking from experience... T_T) With Bandai kits you can usually just snap things together without thinking too hard, but the hair section has tight snap-fit connections and comes together in a complex three-dimensional way, so it does require a bit more care.

All in all, this is a high-quality buildable figure kit that sits somewhere between the EG and Figure-rise Labo lines. If you're a fan of Demon Slayer, this seems like a buildable figure kit you'll have plenty of fun putting together. :-)
