Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers
Following Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger, Grendizer has now been released as the Infinitism version. It actually doesn't appear in the original Mazinger Z: Infinity film, so it seems the name "Infinitism" rather than "Infinity Version" was chosen to reflect that it's been redesigned under a similar concept. Either way, this is a robot that holds a lot of memories for old-school fans alongside Mazinger, and I'm sure plenty of people will be moved to tears seeing it finally get a modern injection kit release.
Visually, it delivers far more complex panel lines and detail than the original design — very much in keeping with the Infinitism concept — and the straight build alone results in a pretty impressive-looking finished product. The joints and some parts are carried over directly from the Mazinger Z Infinitism version, but since the designs are so different, it doesn't feel like a simple color variant at all. The articulation characteristics are nearly identical though, and it still delivers solid, no-fuss articulation and joint strength. The elbow joints are somewhat limited due to the forearm screw parts, but there's a clever workaround where you twist one of the screws sideways to open up the range of motion.
For weapons, you get the Single/Double Harken, and the Double Spazer is included as the flight unit. It would've been great if the big round UFO-shaped Spazer had been included, but unfortunately you'll have to make do with the wing-style Double Spazer. The stand is the same one included with the Mazinger Z Infinitism version, and by making use of the optional parts and auxiliary stand, you can even recreate the Screw Crusher Punch launch scene.
The design strays quite far from the original, so it might be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of thing — but even so, I think a lot of people will just be grateful that the beloved Grendizer has been reborn in such high quality. If you're a Grendizer fan, this is a must-buy, and even if you're not familiar with it, it's a fantastic mecha model kit that's well worth building. :-)
