Getter Arc

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Getter Arc from Getter Robo Arc has been released as an HG kit. It's a redesign of the classic Getter Robo visual concept, and its standout feature is the nine Thunder Bomber spines on its back. It's come out looking great — bigger and chunkier than your average MG.

First off, as you'd expect from an HG-class kit, the color separation is top-notch, and even a straight build looks fantastic. The nine spines of the Thunder Bomber each move forward/backward and up/down individually, and you can position them at whatever angle you want without any looseness. Articulation is solid overall, and the joints feel quite smooth while still holding their position reasonably well. They don't lock in super tight, which is a little worrying, but they're sturdy enough to hold most poses without any trouble.

For weapons, you get two tomahawks and two Battle Shot Cutters, and you can even connect the two tomahawks together using a joint part. Despite being large weapons, they fit snugly into the finger holes, so you can pull off action poses without much hassle. The one issue is that the arm-guard(?) parts that attach to the forearm in place of the Battle Shot Cutters don't hold on very well and tend to fall off — a little dab of glue should sort that right out. There's also a gimmick to swap in an open mouth, and the display stand that came with previous kits is included here as well, which is a nice touch.

All in all, this is a clean, well-made kit that showcases Bandai's smooth, satisfying build and feel. As the Getter Robo featured in the final work of Getter Robo creator Ishikawa Ken, this is definitely a kit worth recommending to anyone with a soft spot for Getter Arc. :-)
