Macross Delta 1/72

VF-31J Siegfried 35th Aniversary

Kit Review

Straight build + Seals

In December 2018, to commemorate Macross' 35th anniversary, the 1/72 VF-31J Hayate unit from Macross Delta was released as a 35th Anniversary Edition. It doesn't look like there'll be a reprint, so it's essentially a limited edition — though it did get a general market release like a regular retail item.

The 35th Anniversary Edition is ultimately a color variant, with the color scheme changed to a black and blue combination. Because of this new color scheme, three of the original runners are provided twice in two different molded colors, which bulks up the runner count and bumps the price up ¥800 compared to the standard version. (And naturally, the leftover parts pile up big time too..)

On top of that, the amount of seals and decals has increased as well — the seal work actually takes longer than the assembly itself. The straight build looks pretty bare, but once you get all the seals on, the flashy 35th Anniversary color scheme really comes together.

All the other basic features are of course the same as the standard version, and thanks to the refined transformation system and relatively solid joint strength, it's still a really fun kit to build and transform. If you're curious about the transformation process or the kit's features in general, check out the review for the VF-31J Siegfried Hayate unit, which shares the same structure.

Anyway, it's essentially a fan-service kit with just the coloring and seals changed — and since it's a limited production run, Macross Delta fans should probably grab one sooner rather than later. :-)
