Released to commemorate the 2021 Macross Delta theatrical film, this is the Draken III + Lilldraken Mirage Farina Jenius Use. Compared to the simultaneously released VF-31F Siegfried + Lilldraken Hayate unit — which had zero change in molded color from the original — at least this kit comes in a new color combination exclusive to the theatrical version. That said, seals are still omitted and only waterslide decals are provided.

The contents combine the Draken III Borgerkampfvogn unit (with the sword) together with the Lilldraken and missile pod, and to achieve the new molded colors, a large number of runners are included in duplicate across multiple colors. Sure, it leaves behind a frightening pile of leftover parts, but even as a straight build it already shows a noticeably different color feel compared to the original Draken III.

And unlike the Hayate unit's Battroid — which became seriously unstable with the addition of the Lilldraken — the Draken III's Battroid shows quite solid proportions and stability. The one issue is that in Fighter Mode the wings are raised vertically to mount the Lilldraken, so the weight occasionally causes them to droop downward.

As a variation of the Draken III that still impresses with its excellent transformation gimmick, this kit feels like a better value proposition than the Hayate unit released alongside it. Both are priced the same at ¥7,400, but the Draken III adds a missile pod, has better durability, and even gets a fresh look with the theatrical film-exclusive coloring. The lack of seals did mean I reviewed it as a straight build though... T_T

Anyway, it's really a kit best recommended for Macross Delta fans who plan to paint it, but there's still something meaningful about seeing the theatrical film's original color scheme finally get a plastic model release. :-)
