(The Alto unit Super Parts combo pack will be reviewed tomorrow)

The Super Parts that made the Valkyrie look even more impressive in the show have been released. The Super Parts come in two versions — a combo pack and a separate pack — and this kit is the ¥2000 separate pack that contains only the Super Parts. By releasing the Super Parts separately like this, existing Valkyrie owners can just pick up the Super Parts alone, while new buyers can grab the combo pack depending on their preference.

First of all, the detail and quality of the Super Parts themselves are very solid, feeling on par with the base Valkyrie kit. The color separation is fairly well done, and areas where it falls short can be covered with seals or decals. Of course, just like the other VF-25 kits, the Super Parts also include both premium seals and waterslide decals to cater to both earthlings and space-dwellers alike.

One interesting thing is that the seals and decals provided with these Super Parts are compatible with all four units — Alto's, Ozma's, Luca's, and Michel's. Since each Valkyrie has a different color scheme, some parts need to match the base unit's color, which makes a single molded color a bit awkward. There are four parts in the Super Parts that need to change color depending on the unit — the chest cover and the missile unit covers.

These cover-type parts are simply molded in white runners (conveniently easy to paint), and by choosing and applying one of four color seals or decals over them, they're set up to match any Valkyrie without painting. (For reference, in the combo packs, these cover parts are included in different molded colors to match each respective base unit's coloring.) In the end, the Super Parts included in the combo pack and the separately sold Super Parts are 100% identical in content — the only difference is the molded color of these cover parts.

At first glance the Super Parts might look like just some extra weapons, but when you actually get to assembling them, you end up removing and replacing a lot more existing parts than you'd expect. So it's less of an add-on and more of a full swap-out, and it feels like the kind of thing that's a bit of a hassle to keep taking on and off. You're probably better off just deciding from the start whether you want the standard version or the Super Parts-equipped version as you build.

There's one interesting item included with the Super Parts — a separate mounting piece that connects to Action Base 1 specifically for GERWALK mode. As mentioned in the Alto unit review, there was a pretty significant issue where the stand mounting piece used in GERWALK mode was so flimsy it barely held anything. It seems like there was enough criticism about this that they quietly slipped in a dedicated GERWALK mode mounting piece, even if it had to come bundled with the Super Parts.

Either way, it's pretty thoughtful of them to release the Super Parts separately, looking out for folks who already built Alto's or Ozma's units. :-)
