Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Seals

Following the Alto unit Super Pack combo kit, the Ozma unit Super Pack combo kit has now been released. With the Super Pack already available as a separate kit, this is a pretty standard color variant that reeks of double-dipping. The only difference is that four shoulder parts have been molded in yellow to match the Ozma unit.

Just like the Alto unit with the Super Pack attached, the Super Pack itself looks pretty cool.. but the durability issues are serious — in Battroid mode and GERWALK mode, it simply cannot support its own weight, which is a pretty fatal flaw. In Battroid mode, the back-heaviness almost always sends it toppling backwards; the hip joints hold up okay, but the knee joints are just too weak and the whole thing goes down.

As you can see in the review photos, if you wedge a leftover part into the gap above the back of the knee it'll stand up just fine — but it does feel a little undignified.. GERWALK mode is just as bad; there's no way to lock the heavy wings in a horizontal position. Again, the only option is to cleverly prop them up with leftover parts.

Fighter mode at least holds together reasonably well, but if the Super Pack is already this bad, I honestly dread to think what the Armored Pack released later will be like. ^^; The Macross Valkyrie series was practically born for color variants, so there's not much point complaining about repeat releases like this — but it's a shame the design didn't account for the added weight of these extra armaments from the start..

Well, setting aside the durability issues.. it does look great. That said, when it comes to the overall crispness of the kit itself, the normal Valkyries still feel like the better deal by far. :-)
