Kamen Rider 2

Kit Review

Straight build

This is the New Kamen Rider 2 kit released as a Bandai Hobby Shop exclusive. You might wonder why it wasn't given a general retail release — well, New Kamen Rider 2's design is only ever so slightly different from New Kamen Rider 1, so it seems like they felt it'd be a bit awkward to put it on shelves and decided to offer it as an online exclusive through the Hobby Shop instead.

New Kamen Rider 2 is structurally identical to New Kamen Rider 1 — even the face is exactly the same. The only differences are that the boots and gloves have been changed from silver to red, and the black stripe stickers in the middle of the side stripes on the arms and legs are gone. To recreate Kamen Rider 2's stripes, the pearl-molded white stripe runner has been newly produced, but the rest of the runners are packed as-is with only the glove/boot runner's molded color changed. The box art and manual are also printed in black and white, presumably to emphasize the exclusive nature of the release.

Since the basic frame is identical to Kamen Rider 1, there's nothing particularly new to look at — but just like the New Kamen Rider 1 kit, it's a solid piece of work with improved joint construction and reassuringly sturdy joint strength and articulation. It's a kit that's really only meaningful in the sense that New Kamen Rider 2 got a kit release at all, subtle differences and all — so unless you're a die-hard Kamen Rider fan, this exclusive doesn't have a whole lot going for it. ^_^;;
