Accel World - Black Lotus

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the Accel World - Black Lotus, released as part of the Figure-rise 6 lineup. Black Lotus is the dual avatar of the heroine Black Snow Princess from the light novel Accel World, in her Black King form. (If you're not familiar with the source material, that explanation probably sounds like gibberish..) It feels less like a figure model kit and more like a straight-up mechanical sculpture.

The overall molded color is a subdued semi-gloss black, complemented by translucent purple parts and effect parts. Placing the effect parts on the arms and under the feet really helps flesh out the action poses. That said, the articulation is below average, so pulling off truly dynamic poses is harder than you'd think. Still, the parts lock in solidly and the joint strength is decent enough, so the actual feel of posing it isn't bad.

As special parts, you get a set for recreating the battle form. By swapping out various parts on the head, torso, arms, and legs, you can expose the clear parts all over the body. Also, since the pointed toes mean it can't stand on a flat surface, a milky clear 1/144-scale stand is included.

Aside from the articulation being more average than expected, this is a clean, well-made kit overall. It's not the most mainstream character out there, but by the same token, if you're an Accel World fan, you're probably just happy this thing exists at all. :-)
