One Piece Grand Ship Collection

Thousand-Sunny

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Following the larger-scale Going Merry and Thousand-Sunny, a new small-scale One Piece model series has kicked off called the "Grand Ship Collection" — or in Japanese, "Idaina Fune Collection" (literally "Great Ship Collection").

First off, it's much smaller than you'd expect — small enough to sit right on top of a cigarette pack. Despite the tiny size, everything that should be there is there, just like on the larger-scale versions, and the color separation that's tricky at this scale is largely compensated for with seals. Seeing such a great color combination pulled off at this small a size makes it feel even more adorable ^^

On top of that, you can also recreate the ship cutting through the waves using the large clear parts — it's a really charming little effect ^^. As a bonus, you can also display it mounted on an Action Base 2 using the hole in the bottom of the ship, though honestly it doesn't feel like the best fit.

There aren't many parts, so the build goes by really quickly, but the way the parts fit together is fun and satisfying. On the flip side, there are quite a lot of seals, so applying them seems to take more than three times as long as the actual assembly. Also, since it gets tricky to apply the seals after the model is fully built, I'd recommend putting them on as you go, section by section.

Overall satisfaction with the kit is very high — honestly, I find myself liking this small, cute little Thousand-Sunny even more than the larger, more elaborate one. ^^ It's compact enough to display easily, and the fact that it packs everything in at such a small size makes it feel all the more adorable. It's a really fun kit that I'd highly recommend to any One Piece fan, and it's a great pick even for those who aren't particularly into it. Why not try building a cute little ship model that goes together as easily as Gunpla? :-)
