One Piece Grand Ship Collection

Moby-Dick

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

The 5th entry in the cute and compact One Piece Grand Ship Collection is the Moby-Dick. It's a fun ship with a bow shaped like the massive whale from the novel.

The basic setup is the same as previous entries, and the size of the ship is similar too. What sets Moby-Dick apart is that it comes with three huge multi-layered sails — it easily outshines the Red Force, which was already known for its impressive sails. ^^ And as usual, a large number of seals are used to achieve the color separation, though it somehow feels a little easier to apply them compared to previous kits.

One thing that's a bit disappointing about Moby-Dick is that the round blue display base doesn't fit the bottom of the ship very well. Previous kits weren't exactly a snug fit either, but Moby-Dick is noticeably worse — it's a bit of a hassle to get it seated and secured in one go. It feels like they just reused the stand from earlier kits rather than designing one specifically for Moby-Dick's underside.. Hopefully they'll pay a bit more attention to that with the next kit.

The color scheme is a touch more plain compared to other entries in the lineup, but the spectacular sails more than make up for it, giving it plenty of personality and charm. And as you can see in that last photo above, the Grand Ship Collection series looks even more adorable when displayed all together. :-)
