One Piece Grand Ship Collection

Nine Snake Pirate Ship

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

The sixth entry in the small and charming One Piece Grand Ship Collection is the Nine Snake Pirate Ship, the vessel of the Kuja Pirates led by Empress Hancock. Unlike the other kits, it immediately stands out with its deep crimson sails and dark-toned hull — and those two snake heads at the bow give it a real personality of its own.

The basic kit layout and concept are the same as the previous entries, and the color separation is decent, but a pretty hefty number of seals are used to recreate the official colors. There are so many small, thin seals that while 30 minutes is plenty to put the kit together, you'll easily spend a solid hour and a half just applying them. ^^; That said, all those seals do pay off — the finished result looks gorgeous.

One thing to note: just like the previous kits, the Nine Snake Pirate Ship comes with a blue semi-transparent stand — but this time, there's a peg in the center of the stand that connects to a hole in the bottom of the hull. This makes the connection between the hull and the stand really secure, which is super convenient when you're moving it around. The earlier kits just had the hull sitting loosely on top of the stand, so they'd often slip off or tip over sideways. The previous hulls actually had holes in the bottom too, so it's a bit of a shame they didn't do it this way from the start.. ^^;

Anyway, the solid, no-frills build and the adorable finished look carry on the tradition of this series nicely. If you're a One Piece fan, this is a fun little gem that's a real joy to put together. :-)
