One Piece Grand Ship Collection

Queen-Mama Chanter

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

The first One Piece Grand Ship Collection kit of 2017 is the Big Mom Pirates' ship, the Queen-Mama Chanter. It's been a year since the last release, and they just keep coming out one by one whenever you start to forget about the series~

The kit's contents are the same as previous releases — great depth and easy to build, but it still requires a hefty amount of seal work. The Queen-Mama Chanter in particular has 5 sails, each with fun seals, plus unique structures like the cake figurehead at the bow, so there's plenty of enjoyment to be had building this one.

A new wave effect parts design has also been introduced. Instead of the single-piece wave effect parts included with previous kits, it's now been changed to 6 separate pieces — 2 each for the front, sides, and rear. There are pros and cons to which looks better, but the reason the wave parts were split up seems to be for parts reuse. The old single-piece wave effect parts were optimized to fit the bottom shape of each individual ship, so they couldn't be used with other kits — but by breaking them into smaller pieces like this, they can be applied to any ship.

In other words, it looks like all future Grand Ship Collection releases will be using these shared wave parts — a clever bit of cost-cutting. The same runner also includes a new stand, with the option to use either a round or square fixing pin, making it compatible with every Grand Ship Collection kit as well. So the stand + wave effect parts runner is now entering infinite reuse mode...

Anyway, as a new release that stays true to the series concept, it's a unique and characterful ship kit that any One Piece fan will have a great time building. :-)
