One Piece Grand Ship Collection

Going-Merry Memorial Color Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of One Piece, a Memorial Color Ver. of the Grand Ship Collection Going-Merry has been released. The kit itself is the same as the original, with only the molded colors and stickers changed. Due to the new color combination, the C runner is included twice — once in desert tan and once in white — which means a large number of leftover parts end up remaining.

Also included are the new wave effect parts and stand runner that were first used in the Queen Mama Chanter released just before this one, and as befitting a commemorative edition, a character plate is thrown in as a bonus. With these extra bonus parts and the duplicate runner added in, the price has gone up from ¥1600 to ¥2000 — and when you consider that the extra runner added due to color separation issues ends up as straight-up junk, it does feel a bit pricey.

There are no structural changes, so please check the photos to see the updated colors and stickers. The big skull sticker modeled after the Jolly Roger that Luffy drew is a fun touch. Sure, it's a color variant kit at the end of the day, but think of it as a charming little treat for die-hard One Piece fans. :-)
