Pacific Rim Uprising HG

Obsidian Fury

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the HG Obsidian Fury, a Jaeger from Pacific Rim Uprising. It's the villain Jaeger from the film — a dark, brooding black robot.

The overall build quality is on par with the Gipsy Avenger released alongside it, and the combination of excellent articulation and solid joint strength makes this a kit that's really satisfying to pose. Visually, being an all-black mech it can feel a little plain, but the numerous seals and surface details do a good job of adding some visual interest.

The plasma chainsaw that attaches to the forearm comes with both a black parts version and a clear orange parts version, so you can pick whichever suits your taste. Two hand types are included — open hands and fists — and the sculpting on them is superb. That said, unlike Gipsy Avenger, there isn't a whole lot of internal frame structure here; you can only remove the armor on the forearms and lower body.

Together with Gipsy Avenger, this is a flawless, top-tier action figure kit that I can recommend to any mecha model fan out there. :-)
