RE/100 MSF-007

Gundam Mk-III

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Decals

The second kit in the much-talked-about RE/100 line is the Gundam Mk-III — and true to the nature of the lineup, it's the kind of rare mecha that would've been a bit awkward to release as an MG. ^^

First off, staying true to the RE/100 concept, there's no inner frame whatsoever — the kit is entirely focused on appearance, style, and proportions, which makes the build feel nice and straightforward. The color separation is cleanly done where it counts, so even a straight build gives you a great color combination, and the overall proportions are on par with MG level.

The articulation also beats out most MGs in terms of range of motion, and the polycaps are quite tight, so the joint strength feels very solid. There are plenty of MGs out there where all the gimmicks make posing a hassle regardless of joint strength, but with the RE/100 Gundam Mk-III, every single joint is snapped in tight despite the kit's large size, making it a real joy to strike action poses. It can feel a little stiff at times, but that's definitely better than being loose. ^^

That said, looking at the overall detail level — it's better than a 1/100 No Grade, but it does feel just a little lacking compared to an MG. And since the molded colors themselves don't exactly have a premium feel by design, the color choices might be a bit hit-or-miss depending on your taste.

Still, being able to get a 1/100 scale kit with MG-level looks, solid joints, and great articulation for ¥3500 is clearly a big plus. And at the end of the day, there's something to be said for the fact that a mecha that didn't seem likely to get even an HG release — let alone a 1/100 — actually made it out like this.

Either way, if you've had any interest in the Gundam Mk-III, this is definitely a very welcome item — and it makes you look forward to seeing more rare mecha get the same treatment. :-)
