RE/100 RX-78GP04G

Gundam GP04G Gerbera

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Decals

The third RE/100 release is the Gundam GP04G Gerbera from 0083. As expected, this is the first time it's been released as a Bandai injection plastic kit — a kit you could previously only get in resin form is finally available to build. ^^

RE/100 has already put out three kits, but the GP04G feels like the first "proper" RE/100 Gundam kit in the truest sense. The previous release, Gundam Mk-III, had a color scheme and design that felt less like a classic Gundam and more thoroughly like a side-story unit. After all, a Gundam just feels like a Gundam when it's got that white base with a blue body.

True to the series concept, there's no inner frame at all, so building it feels like putting together a large HG kit. Of course, given the scale, the amount of molded detail is incomparably greater than any HG. Because of that, panel lining actually took far longer than the assembly itself. There are so many panel lines that the results after panel lining look absolutely great, but just be aware that it requires significantly more panel lining work than your average MG.

In terms of articulation, it delivers a wide range of motion on par with top-tier MG kits. The limbs fold almost completely, and the kit is light for its size, so joint strength is solid and it's easy to handle. The massive binders on the back have no moving parts, which means they hold their angles well, and the lower binders can have a support stand attached for standing poses — a thoughtful touch that makes it very easy to stand upright, which I really appreciate. The one downside is that, separate from joint tightness, there's a structural issue where the shoulders tend to pop off when posing, which is a bit of a shame.

Color separation is done carefully for all the visually important areas, and with the right amount of sticker application, the design colors come together nicely. That said, there's not much consideration for seam lines like you'd find on an MG, so they're visible here and there, which is a minor disappointment. On the plus side, the main armor pieces use undergates, so gate marks are barely visible — actually better than many MG kits in that regard.

True to the RE/100 concept, the overall look is well done, but there aren't any special gimmicks and only the basic weapons are included, so recreating a wide variety of poses is a bit limited. That said, the three large verniers on the back are so imposing that even a simple pose gives the kit a real sense of dynamism. Above all, the biggest appeal here is being able to build such a large, clean Gerbera in injection plastic form. Personally, considering the price and the looks, I'd recommend this RE/100 kit even more than its predecessors. It's easy to build and looks fantastic — a great kit I'd recommend to any Gunpla fan. :-)
