Gun EZ

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining + Stickers

The Gun EZ from V Gundam has been released as the 11th kit in the RE/100 lineup. It was always a bit of an awkward fit for the MG line in various ways, but it seems like a pretty natural match for the RE/100 series concept. The Gun EZ's sibling unit, the Gun Blastor — which shares nearly the same body — is out there, and looking at the runner layout, it seems like a Gun Blastor release is already being considered. (Maybe as a Club G exclusive?)

First off, since MS from the V Gundam era tend to be on the smaller side by design, this comes out as a compact kit even at 1/100. Built on the shared RE/100 polycap base, it's cleanly executed with no inner frame — just the exterior done well. That said, the surface detail is simpler compared to previous releases, which can make it look a little plain. Then again, a Gun EZ loaded up with complex detail would probably look pretty weird too.

Previous RE/100 kits had issues with the shared polycaps not holding well, but since the Gun EZ is on the smaller side, joint strength is thankfully almost a non-issue here. The polycaps are more than enough to hold the small, lightweight limbs in place, and as a result it holds just about any pose without trouble. Add in the excellent limb articulation and the hip slide gimmick, and overall this feels like the best-articulated kit in the RE/100 lineup.

That said, the shoulder joints do have a tendency to let the arm pop off if you bend them too far forward, and the beam rifle reused from the MG V Gundam Ver.Ka causes interference with the wrist, which can lead to it coming apart during posing. Being borrowed from another kit, that's probably just something you have to live with — but aside from those two issues, grip strength and weapon retention are both pretty solid.

As for optional gimmicks, you can open the weapon covers on both shoulders to reveal the beam saber and twin multi-launcher inside, and they can also be swapped out for flat shoulder armor pieces. The Action Base joint part is also worth praising — it slots into a T-shaped groove at the hip and locks in extremely securely.

To sum it up: it's not the most well-known suit and the detail is relatively understated, but in terms of articulation and joint quality, this is probably the most solid and stable kit in the RE/100 lineup. If you have fond memories of V Gundam, this is definitely one to welcome, and even if you're seeing the Gun EZ for the first time, if the design appeals to you, it's an easy recommendation. :-)
