Super Robot War HG

Huckebein [PTX-08R]

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the Huckebein released as part of Bandai's Super Robot Wars HG series. The Huckebein Mk-II and Mk-III came out first, and the original Huckebein ended up being the last one released. Since the existing joint parts were reused, the overall articulation feel and characteristics are pretty similar to the Mk-II/III.

First off, unlike the Mk-II/III, this one comes in the 4th Super Robot Wars color scheme — a bright sky blue — rather than the deep blue OG colors. The molded color is bright and vibrant, but since so many people are used to the OG colors, quite a few find it a bit off-putting. The overall build quality feels similar to the previous kits that share the same joints, with excellent articulation and solid joint strength. The color separation is well done and it goes together nicely, making it a top-notch HG kit overall.

For weapons, you get the Black Hole Cannon, Roche Saber, and Rib Slasher, giving you plenty of posing options. A clear Action Base 7 is also included, which you can use for aerial poses or to support the Black Hole Cannon. That said, the joint strength and grip are solid enough that it can hold the big Black Hole Cannon straight out without a stand just fine. The Rib Slasher also comes with dedicated joint parts, so you can use it for action poses. One minor gripe — there are 6 hands but only 4 hand back covers included, so you'll have to swap them around.

All in all, this is a clean, well-made Bandai Super Robot Wars kit. As long as you don't have any issues with the color scheme, it's a really fun HG kit well worth building. :-)
