Kit Review

Yoda, the Jedi Master, has been released by Bandai in 1/6 scale. It's actually a multi-scale kit that includes both a 1/6 and a 1/12 scale figure. Yoda is already portrayed as small in the films, but building him as a kit really drives home just how tiny he is. (See the various comparison photos.)
First off, two head options are provided — bald and white-haired — and you can combine either with two different eye direction parts. The sculpting on the facial expressions and wrinkles is really vivid and well done.
The cloak is made of a soft, flexible material, so you can fold or roll it up slightly. The short, stocky limbs are hidden underneath, but the articulation is actually better than it looks. In particular, being able to spread or fold the cloak like it's billowing open allows for a surprisingly wide variety of poses.
The 1/12 Yoda comes as a simple fixed-pose figure with no articulation, but it still shows off some charming little details. Since most of the other Star Wars figure kits have come out in 1/12 scale, it fits in nicely when displayed alongside the existing lineup. Sure, it's still incredibly tiny, but that's just how the character is, so there's not much you can do about it.
Anyway, I never really expected Yoda to get a plastic model kit, but true to Bandai form, it's come out looking really clean and well-made. On top of that, it can pull off more poses than you'd expect — making it a pretty unique kit that any die-hard Star Wars fan would have a hard time passing up. :-)
