Boba Fett from Star Wars Episode 5 "The Empire Strikes Back" has been released in 1/12 scale. It came out alongside Slave I, the ship Boba Fett uses to transport Han Solo after freezing him in carbonite. The scales are quite different — 1/144 vs. 1/12 — but the finished sizes end up being surprisingly similar.
The basic skeleton structure follows the same concept as the Stormtrooper, but since there are zero shared parts, this is 100% all-new tooling. Unlike the Stormtrooper with its simple monochrome color scheme, Boba Fett is a character with a rich, varied color palette, so the parts breakdown is far more intricate and detailed by comparison. On top of that, Bandai really went all-in on the color separation, so even a straight build delivers a pretty stunning screen-accurate look.
In particular, little details like the rope coiled around the shoulder and the small pins on the side of the knees are all carefully sculpted, making this a really satisfying kit to put together. In terms of pure build enjoyment, it honestly feels like a much better experience than the Stormtrooper or Darth Vader. :-)
Articulation is pretty much on par with the Stormtrooper — the arms move quite well, but the legs and feet are just average, so pulling off really dynamic poses is harder than you'd expect. The lower body is quite stiff, and even a kneeling pose only barely works at a slight angle. That said, the overall look is so good and the natural standing poses are so clean that posing it is still a fun experience.
Feature-wise, the rangefinder on the side of the helmet can be rotated down in front of the eye, and the blaster pistol can be stored in the hip holster — but beyond that, there aren't really any other special gimmicks to speak of.
Anyway, Boba Fett may not have quite the same iconic presence as the Stormtrooper, but in terms of kit quality, this is easily among the very best of any similar 1/12 figure model kit out there. You could call it the pinnacle of Bandai's figure model kit lineup. If you're a Boba Fett fan, this is an absolute must-buy — and even if you're not, it's still a fantastic figure model kit well worth building at least once. :-)
