Death Star Attack Set

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining

The Death Star Attack Set has been released, depicting the final battle scene from Star Wars Episode IV. The basic setup brings together the Death Star surface bases that had been included across various kits, with a Vehicle Model X-Wing added on top — honestly, it felt like a variation that was bound to show up sooner or later.

The X-Wing's parts layout is completely identical to the existing Vehicle Model, with only the seals changed. You can choose from three seal options for Red 2, 3, and 5, and each seal design is slightly differentiated from the originals. The Death Star surface bases gathered from various kits even include the turbolaser turret that came with the 1/72 A-Wing, and a total of 11 bases have been reused, with 7 different base types appearing with some overlap.

On top of that, 4 new joint parts have been added to stand the rear bases upright at 90 degrees, along with 2 new parts to secure the X-Wing in place. The X-Wing also comes with a clear stand so it can be plugged into an appropriate spot on the base.

So while this is purely a display kit without any particular play features, having all those varied Death Star bases gathered together makes for quite an impressive sight. With a proper paint job it'd make for an even more convincing diorama set — definitely the kind of kit any Star Wars fan would want to put together at least once. :-)
